Hello everybody on the internet! So, almost a year ago I started working under Kazu to help him color his comic book Amulet II: The Stonekeeper's Curse.
It's a bombastic kid's-adventure story with things like magic, parkour, sword-fights, giant robots, and evil elves. What I like about the story is the horrible, nerve-wracking danger the protagonist-kids and their mother are put through. Kazu's bit of art-direction that dictated the look and feel throughout the book: "I want you to preserve the cartoony-ness of the world, but also make it feel like the apocalypse."
I'm pretty sure that baby animal on the above page survives. Pretty sure. Here's some stuff I colored, below:
I learned a bit about digital-painting over the past year. The main thing that blew my mind was approaching Photoshop like a gaffer instead of a painter - drawing a scene and "lighting" it with dodge- and shadow-brushes instead of mixing colors by hand. Here's some commemorative fanart I did:
The talented peeps on the Amulet crew : Amy, Jason, Kean, Stuart, Denver, Ryan Hoffmann, Michael, Tim, Catherine, Alan, Patrick Race, Cayleigh Allen, and Felix Lim. It was awesome working with you guys!
WOW! Fantastic work my friend!
